C&NW U16 boys hockey side reached the finals weekend of the National HA Plate competition with a thrilling win over South Cheshire.
Coventry came flying out the blocks scoring three times in as many minutes to take a 3.0 lead after only 8 minutes.
Skipper Dom Bell scored the first with a powerful drive into the oppositions circle followed by an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner, one minute later winger Chris Sewell was put clean through and he too picked out the bottom corner giving Greasby in the S.Cheshire goal no chance. Straight from the restart some fine work from left winger Mitch Wise saw him combine with Bell and the skipper fired home to make it 3.0.
Cov continued to press and in the 18th minute a mazy run from Wise drew all the defenders towards him and he gave an inch perfect pass to Josh O'Brien in the circle who made no mistake slotting the ball passed Greasby.
South Cheshire refused to give up and continued to press, in the 27th minute their perseverance was rewarded when Basra saved only to see the ball spin back into the empty goal.
Coventry still appeared well in control but 5 minutes into the second half Alex Bedford turned the game upside down with two goals in 2 minutes as the Coventry side struggled to maintain the high pace they had set in the first half. Both sides had chances but with 5 minutes to go S.Cheshire were awarded a penalty corner and Alex Bedford made no mistake earning himself a hat trick in the process.

The final whistle saw the match decided on penalties.
Bell, Wise and James Cook calmly scored from the spot and although South Cheshire scored their first penalty two fine saves from Jake Basra meant that Charlie Mulhall could tie up the game and he calmly fired home to give cov a 4-2 lead and a place in the finals weekend at Highfields in Nottingham scheduled for the 10th and 11th of April.
